OUR STORY

Former U.S. Army Captain Timothy Berry identified the need for Collaborate and Graduate while serving as a Diversity Outreach Admissions Officer at West Point.

Tim regularly met with minority candidates with clear leadership potential and strong academic records who nonetheless fell short of admissions standards due to poor standardized test scores. Tim’s research on college access quickly showed that this pool of students had the capacity to perform well as West Point cadets, but first needed to overcome their economic disadvantage in preparing for the SAT and ACT.

Over dinner one night, Tim sat down with his best friend and West Point classmate, Captain Tommy Daniel, and expressed his frustration with the admission system’s inability to account for the potential of these talented applicants and alleviate the socioeconomic challenge facing them.

Shortly after they asked Zachary Adams to help develop the right academic interventions to support minority candidates gain admission to West Point.

As West Point graduates, Tim and Tommy believe every qualified applicant should be able to walk through the same door of opportunity once offered to them.  Together, with a dedicated volunteer staff, they have laid the groundwork for Collaborate and Graduate and are enthusiastic about the chance to create opportunity for deserving, committed students in need.

Collaborate & Graduate is an all-volunteer organization comprised of a diverse staff and Board Advisors.
